Each year, Tribeca Film Institute selects the most riveting and engaging films produced and edited by youth media organizations and/or independent youth collectives. Our City, My Story is an annual celebration of excellence in New York City youth-made media that gives student-made work an audience during the Tribeca Film Festival. We are currently seeking narrative, documentary, and experimental short films, produced and edited by young people ages 14-19, that share a unique perspective on New York City and its ever-evolving, diverse, and complex identity.
The films will premiere at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival before film industry professionals, filmmakers, students, teachers, and the larger New York City community. During this exciting opportunity, student filmmakers will connect with their student filmmaker peers, as well as gain valuable feedback from industry professionals.
KEY DATES
February 1st, 2012: Submissions Open
March 16th, 2012: Submissions Close
March 30, 2012: Notifications
April 2012: Work screened during Tribeca Film Festival
ENTRY FEES
Submissions are free of charge.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for consideration:
- Entrants must fully comply with these Entry Rules & Regulations, including deadlines and entry material requirements and selected film requirements
- Non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time of submitted.
- Films must be less than 20 minutes in length.
- Filmmakers must be younger than 19 years of age and residing within the five boroughs of New York City.
- Youth filmmakers must play the major creative role on the production of the submitted works -- as directors, writers, and/or editors. Preference will be given to films that are overwhelmingly youth made, and any works reflecting more than 15% of creative control by filmmakers over the age of 19 will be ineligible for submission.
- Organizations submitting youth produced works may be requested by Tribeca Film Institute staff to undergo an interview at the site of their operations.
HOW TO ENTER
Complete the Submissions Application and submit via mail with your work sample. Materials must be postmarked by March 16th, 2012 and sent to:

ENTRY MATERIALS
All entries must include the following:
- A completed Our City, My Story Application, available online.
- DVD copy of the work formatted for multi-zone or Zone 1 (North America), and labeled with title, running time, name of filmmaker and/or school organization, and name of primary contact and contact information. Entries will not be accepted in any other format. Entry materials will not be returned.
Multiple Entries:
Each entered film must be submitted on its own DVD and accompanied by its own completed “Our City, My Story Entry Form.” Please do not send a compilation DVD composed of work for separate entries.
