Applications for Teen Filmmaker Programs

Tribeca Film Institute is pleased to announce these exciting opportunities for teen filmmakers in 2012. All programs are free of charge, and open to NYC high school students.

OUR CITY, MY STORY

Application Deadline: March 16, 2012

For high school filmmakers who wish to showcase their original work.

Our City, My Story is an annual celebration of excellence in New York City youth media that gives student-made work an audience during the Tribeca Film Festival. Our City, My Story aims to highlight and bring attention to the tremendous work that our city’s young filmmakers are producing.

APPLICATIONS FOR 2012 Our city, my story are CLOSED

  • Non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time of submitted.Films must be less than 20 minutes in length.
  • Filmmakers must be younger than 19 years of age and residing within the five boroughs of New York City.
  • Youth filmmakers must play the major creative role on the production of the submitted works -- as directors, writers, and/or editors. Preference will be given to films that are overwhelmingly youth made, and any works reflecting more than 15% of creative control by filmmakers over the age of 19 will be ineligible for submission.
  • Organizations submitting youth produced works may be requested by Tribeca Film Institute staff to undergo an interview at the site of their operations.

Tribeca Film Fellows

Application Deadline: Postmarked by February 17, 2012

For young filmmakers with academic and career aspirations in film and media.

The Tribeca Film Fellows program brings 20 young people from NYC to the Tribeca Film Festival (and beyond!) each year, giving these young filmmakers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the Festival, the film industry, higher education and the art of making films.

Applications for the 2012 Tribeca Film Fellows program are closed

  • Must be a NYC high school student age 16 – 18.
  • Must have been actively involved with video production for at least 12 months.
  • Have a career aspiration in some area of media and/or video/film
  • Must submit completed application form, work sample (note: work samples will not be returned) and letter of recommendation (from NYC media organization or film/video program instruction or staff member) by deadline.

SUMMER ARTS INSTITUTE FILMMAKING WORKSHOP

For young artists who want to develop their artistic abilities and create work for their portfolio.

The Summer Arts Institute Filmmaking Workshop is an intensive, tuition-free, six-week filmmaking course that gives NYC public school students filmmaking training, access to state-of-the-art equipment, and a platform to express their ideas in new and innovative ways. The workshop is produced as part of the larger Summer Arts Institute—an intensive art-making summer program administered by the NYC Department of Education’s Office of the Arts and Special Projects.
