About Tribeca Film Fellows

During the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival and throughout the coming year, 20 young people, ages 15 to 20, will participate in the Tribeca Film Fellows, a program that allows filmmakers to exchange ideas, explore the possibilities of cinema, and develop their own visions and voices through film.

As part of this fellowship, students will gain a deeper knowledge of the creative, professional and educational opportunities available in media through filmmaking projects, mentorship from Festival directors, screenings, intensive workshops and direct contact with seasoned filmmakers. The Fellows will also become better educated about the independent film community and the role of international film festivals in the industry. Finally, Fellows will forge meaningful relationships with peers, educators, and festival filmmakers that will further develop their individual, scholastic and career goals.

The Tribeca Film Festival has brought back the love and charm of lower Manhattan and restored New Yorkers’ love of cinema. The Fellows program has shown young filmmakers not only how but that their dreams are accessible.
– Jonan Everett, 2006 Tribeca Film Fellow

During the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival, the Fellows worked on a creative project documenting the city in which they live, engage in a private Q&A with renowned documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, and spend a day with three visiting Rwandan youth filmmakers as an exercise in creating cultural bridges through media. Following the Festival, the students will all be placed in a six-week film-related internship as well as serving as youth ambassadors for TFI throughout the year, sharing their experiences as young filmmakers with youth across the city.
