For the past three years, TFI has utilized the power of film to help harness and direct the energy, vision and promise of New York City’s high school students. Through a broad range of programming, students with an interest in cinema have the opportunity to learn more about film and about how to use film to think about their own lives, stories, communities and careers.

The Programs:

The Tribeca Film Fellows program brings 20 NYC high school students to the Tribeca Film Festival (and beyond!) — giving these young filmmakers a unique behind the scenes look at the Festival, the film industry and the art of making films.

Tribeca Teaches: Films in Motion brings the excitement of the Tribeca Film Festival to public schools around New York City, providing them with the resources to create a documentary about living in New York City, exposing them to independent films and filmmakers, and also allowing educators to integrate these films into their curricula.

The Summer Arts Institute Filmmaking Workshop (produced in partnership with the NYC Department of Education) is an intensive, tuition-free, 6-week filmmaking course that gives NYC public school students filmmaking training, access to state-of-the art equipment and a platform to express their ideas in new and innovative ways.

Our City, My Story, an annual celebration of excellence in New York City youth media, gives student-made work an audience during the Tribeca Film Festival. Our City, My Story aims to highlight and bring attention to the tremendous work that our city’s young filmmakers are producing.

The Tribeca Youth Screening Series, brings students, year-round, to Tribeca Cinemas for free screenings of relevant programming – including Festival films, Studio Films and youth made media. TFI creates study guides for each film and produces Q&A sessions with filmmakers or panel discussions following each screening.
