TFI & Sloan Go All Out with Full Day of MEMENTO
Saturday was huge for the TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Memento and our tireless pursuit of scientifically accurate filmmaking. The day started off with a sold-out screening of the film, but things started getting interesting after the credits rolled. Jonathan Nolan, Guy Pearce, and Joe Pantoliano all took the stage afterwards for a candid panel discussion of the film. Since Sloan is all about science, we were also fortunate to have two memory science experts on board, Dr. Suzanne Corkin and Dr. William Hirst, helping to break down the line between the Memento’s unique narrative structure and the legitimacy of the portrayed memory loss. After the panel, everyone went to do what festival attendees do best: party. Sloan went all out on the guest list for its last event of the festival, making for quite an eclectic mixer. Chilling with Guy and Joey Pants in the VIP room was an obvious pleasure, but our whole crew of 2010 grantees, panelists, and jurors made for an exciting evening of talking film, science, and everything in between. The event venue made the whole evening even more surreal: it might not have been Ferdy's Bar, but the dimly lit Star Lounge felt like just the kind of place Leonard would hang out at, and made for an interesting space to host a low-key cocktail reception.
