Job Title: College Prep Workshop Coordinator

Position Summary: The Tribeca Film Institute seeks a part time program coordinator for its fall College Preparatory Workshop, which serves alumni of our Tribeca Film Fellows program and the Summer Arts Institute Filmmaking Workshop.  Rising high school juniors and seniors who have participated in these programs will have the opportunity to attend a series of six workshops (focusing on portfolio development, college essays and interviewing skills) and college trips, as well as receiving one-on-one assistance with internship searches and college applications. 

Core Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Director of Education  in coordinating various integrated communication and youth activities
  • Assisting in the development of the College Prep Workshop such as portfolio development, college essays and interviewing skills with the participating students
  • Carrying out a wide variety of administrative tasks that will include, but are not limited to: strategic research and development and planning

Educational Requirements: A bachelors degree as well as a minimum of four years work experience in arts administration and/or college preparation.

Position Requirements/Scope:

  • Superior writing and communication skills.  
  • Experience working directly with youth, especially working with media and/or college preparation.
  • Organizing and facilitating workshops.
  • Outreach to youth participating in workshops.
  • Securing guest speakers.
  • Working one-on-one with participating youth during weekly office hours
  • Arranging college visits,
  • Tracking/documenting student progress.

Start Date: September, 2010
Hours: Part Time, approximately 15 hours/week, primarily after traditional school hours.
Salary: hourly, commensurate with experience
Location: Position will work onsite in SoHo, Manhattan

Job Title:  Data Acquisition Technician/Developer

Position Summary: Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) is seeking a Data Acquisition Technician/Developer for the TFI Reframe Collection, an online retail solution aimed at increasing the access and availability of independent film collections from not-for-profit distributors, archives and individuals around the world. This position reports to the TFI technology strategist. The data assistant should have an interest in the field of media arts and digital technologies. The position will focus on the coordination of data and other deliverables from our partner distributors and filmmakers and delivery to CreateSpace/Amazon.com according to their protocols.

Core Responsibilities: The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Data entry
  • Development of modules for web based CMS and CRM
  • Cross-syndication of modules using XML
  • Carrying out a wide variety of administrative tasks that will include, but are not limited to; strategic research and development, and planning
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders in the organization and providing clear, concise and timely responses to requests


Educational Requirements: A bachelors Degree in Media Arts/Digital Technology or related discipline is required

Position Requirements/Scope:

  •  Excellent computer skills including database and spreadsheet experience
  • PHP and Java/Spring (knowledge of Cake PHP or Ruby on Rails a plus)
  • XML data exchange
  • Good understanding of MCV programming
  • Ability to run and maintain TomCat a plus
  • Good attention to detail and communication skills
  • Photoshop, html and web design experience

START DATE: September 13, 2010
HOURS: Position is hourly, 15 hours/week
SALARY: $15/hour
LOCATION: Position will work onsite in Soho, Manhattan

Tribeca Film Institute Seeks Interns

Undergraduate and Graduate students invited to apply

The Tribeca Film Institute is a dynamic, fast-paced environment in which to learn about media arts, the filmmaking industry, arts education and non-profit arts marketing. We are currently seeking interns who want to learn more about one of the areas in which we specialize. Ideal candidates will be organized, professional multi-taskers with a love of cinema and the media arts.

Interns work closely with our program heads in four general areas:

Artist Programs
Tribeca Film Institute artist programs provide year-round support for filmmakers working in the documentary and narrative fields. Students who are interested in learning more about how the film industry functions, the details of structured filmmaker support, and general program development will have the opportunity to assist with existing and developing programming. Specific program interests are outlined below, but all candidates must be proficient with Excel and Word; a familiarity with Filemaker Pro is a plus. In addition to general administrative support, interns will assist with the following program-specific tasks:

Tribeca All Access
Organize,log and track submissions; research for filmmaker and industry outreach and special projects; respond to phone and email inquieres about the program.  Assist in planning/execution of year round events and prep programming for 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

Alfred P. Sloan Partnership
Log, route and help cover submissions; triage telephone and email inquiries; miscellaneous research and special projects in support of grant program and festival screening & panel series.

The Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund & other documentary programs
Organize, log and track submissions; answer e-mail and phone inquiries from potential applicants. Assist in event planning/execution and jury/filmmaker coordination.

TFI Latin America Media Arts Fund
Answer online and phone inquiries from potential applicants; assist with submissions processing; Fluency in Spanish required.

New Program Development
Assist in the completion of research on music history, contact film companies to make rights inquiries and assist in the preparation of materials for a national educational project showcasing films on American music history

Education Programs
TFI’s Education programs work year-round with NYC educators, students and schools to provide film education and filmmaking training. In addition to general administrative support, interns will aid in outreach to schools and students; help to organize screenings, workshops, and special events; and work closely with the Education team on special projects. The candidate must be enthusiastic about film and education, and comfortable working directly with youth. The ideal candidate will have experience and interest working in one or all of the following areas: in-school arts education programs, curriculum development, and professional development for teachers.

Design & content
Our design and content area is well suited for students studying graphic design or communications. Interns will assist with copy editing; the design of printed publications; photo re-sizing; and web ad design. Familiarity with the Mac platform and Adobe CS3 (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is a must; Proficiency in FinalCutPro and Flash is a plus.

Technical
Our technical department is focused on streamlining TFI’s database, e-commerce and web functionality. Computer Science students who are interested in learning about real-world applications of IT in a non-profit environment would be well-suited to this position.
