Does Tribeca All Access look for certain types of films? How do I know if my project has a “qualified director or screenwriter” attached?
Tribeca All Access has no content requirements. Since the programs’ inception, TAA has curated a slate of scripts and documentary works-in-progress that have been extremely diverse in terms of genre, style, theme, and budget range.
Our projects are selected with the intention of supporting underrepresented screenwriters and directors. In the past, all of TAA’s selected projects have had at least one director and/or screenwriter attached who identified him or herself as: African American, Asian American, Latino, Pacific Islander, Arab American or Native American, female of any race, or disability of any race or gender.
Applicants should refer to the Tribeca All Access Rules & Regulations or contact the Tribeca All Access program if there are any additional questions on eligibility. Email: narrative@tribecafilminstitute.org; phone: 212-274-8080 ext. 27
Is Tribeca All Access open to filmmakers from around the world?
Applicants must be current residents of the U.S. or Puerto Rico, but do not need to be US citizens.
However, TAA has teamed up with selected international organizations (like the Canadian Film Centre (CFC)) who invite international filmmakers to participate in the program, as well. Filmmakers coming to the program through an international organization will be selected by the designated organization with the help of TAA. For more information, email narrative@tribecafilminstitute.org.
I am a screenwriter, but no director is attached to my project yet. Do I qualify for Tribeca All Access?
Yes. Eligible screenwriters are welcome to apply, regardless of whether or not a director is attached to their project at the time of application. Applications that do not have a director attached are not required to submit footage with their applications.
When do I need to be in attendance for the Tribeca All Access program?
The qualifying director or screenwriter must be in attendance during the entirety of TAA during the Tribeca Film Festival, beginning April 2012. Producers and other team members are also welcome and encouraged to attend industry meetings and other TAA scheduled events when noted. The total per project team should not exceed four.
I live outside of New York City. If I am accepted into the program, will Tribeca All Access cover my travel and accommodation?
Tribeca All Access will provide a traveling stipend to help cover the cost of airfare and accommodation for primary participants who do not reside in the New York City metro area.
Note: The stipend may or may not cover the entire cost incurred for travel & accommodations during the duration of the program. Participants who receive a travel stipend will be responsible to arrange his/her own travel details and cover any additional cost outside of what the stipend covers.
If my project is selected for Tribeca All Access, will it screen at the Tribeca Film Festival?
Acceptance to Tribeca All Access does not indicate acceptance to the festival. Filmmakers with completed films seeking to apply to the Tribeca Film Festival should fill out a separate application by visiting www.tribecafilm.com/festival/.
Will I be able to attend the Tribeca Film Festival as a Tribeca All Access participant?
Yes. All primary participants are accredited as a filmmaker at the festival and will be able to accredit up to two additional team members with a “Filmmaker Guest” badge.
Can I apply to other TFI programs? Am I allowed to submit more than one project?
Yes. However, separate applications must be filled out for each project.
Can I apply to other TFI programs, such as the TFI Documentary Fund?
Yes! Upon applying to Tribeca All Access, you will answer a number of preliminary questions that will determine if your project is also eligible for other TFI programs. This process allows you to fill out only one application per project.
If you would like to submit another project for consideration, you are welcome to, but you must fill out a separate application.
How much does Tribeca All Access grant per project?
Tribeca All Access grants $10,000 per project. Additionally, TAA also provides a $10,000 grant through the Creative Promise Award, which are presented to one filmmaker in each category (narrative or documentary) and determined by a jury of noted professionals.
Are there any stipulation on how I spend my grant if selected?
Participants may use the funding towards any stage of their project including pre-production, production, post production, and/or marketing. Participants will work with the TAA staff to work out the best plan on how to spend the funds.
TAA reserves the right to withhold portions of the funding if during a required update/review of the project certain goals and guidelines previously set are not satisfied.
Is there a reason why the program is accepting less filmmakers than it has in previous years?
Every year we evaluate the TAA program to make sure we stay influential in the field and create the best opportunities for the filmmakers we support. In an effort for our support to have the largest impact, we decided to focus on a more concentrated selection of projects. This will also allow us room to increase our year round support for the program alumni who are working on new projects or need further assistance on their past TAA projects.
Do I qualify for a Tribeca All Access Alumni Grant?
If you have ever been the recipient of a Tribeca All Access grant and participated in Tribeca All Access, you automatically qualify for the Tribeca All Access Alumni Grants. Alumni Grant applicants are welcome to apply with either the same project with which they participated in Tribeca All Access, or with any project they are currently working on, regardless of whether or not the project has received support from TFI in the past.
Where can I find additional answers to questions?
You will find more information about the application process in our Rules & Regulations. Our staff will be happy to answer any other questions or concerns you may have. Please contact us at narrative@tribecafilminstitute.org or 212.274.8080 ext. 27.
