Alfred P. Sloan Foundation at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has been a founding and signature sponsor of the Tribeca Film Festival since 2002. Sloan’s partnership with Tribeca forms part of a national program to stimulate the creation of realistic and compelling stories about science and technology and to challenge existing stereotypes about scientists, engineers and mathematicians in the popular imagination. In addition to showcasing the intersection of science and film at the festival, the Foundation supports the development, production and distribution of narrative features that dramatize science and technology stories through the TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund.

wargames SCREENING & PANEL
Almost 30 years after its release, John Badham's Oscar-nominated thriller WarGames, surrounding computer hacking, gaming technology and network security starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy, is perhaps more prevalent now than it was in 1983.
To celebrate this '80s classic, Tribeca Film Festival had a special screening, sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Following the film, as part of TFF's Tribeca Talks series, there was a conversation with director John Badham, actress Ally Sheedy, Bitcoin Technical Lead Gavin Andresen and William D. Casebeer, PhD, Program Manager, Defense Sciences Office at DARPA (USAF, retired) about the historical relationship between military strategy and technical innovation, storytelling with gaming and simulation tools, and the challenges of depicting cutting-edge technology on the big screen.

TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund Work-in-progress readings
Taking a bit of inspiration from the scientific process itself, four grantees from our TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund participated in an “experiment” to see their in-development screenplays taken from the page and onto the stage.
With the help of casting agents Sig de Miguel and Steve Vincent, director Abigail Zealey Bess and a team of seasoned actors, scenes from each of the work-in-progress projects were brought to life and presented to an audience of over 100 guests. Read More
