Looking Back at A Beautiful Mind with Ron Howard, Brian Grazer

Each year during the Tribeca Film Festival, the Alfred P. Sloan Partnership presents a screening and panel discussion celebrating a film that exemplifies sound science or math on screen. On Saturday, we examined both -- as seen in Ron Howard’s Academy Award-winning film A Beautiful Mind.

It has been ten years since the movie was released, and during the post-screening panel moderated by NPR’s Ira Flatow, Howard admitted he hadn’t seen the film since, which made this anniversary celebration all the more special. Joining the director on the panel were special guests from science, math and cinema, including producer Brian Grazer, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, author Sylvia Nasar, the film's math consultant Dave Bayer, and Columbia Professor of Physics and Mathematics Brian Greene.

The TFI-Sloan partnership exists to advance the public understanding of science, and Saturday’s conversation about the art, science and math of A Beautiful Mind furthered that goal well, beautifully.
