National Film Board of Canada Becomes a Reframe Partner
It's our pleasure to announce that the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is joining us as a Reframe Collection parter. We've longed admired and shared the NFB's committment to making film and video content accessible through online resources, as well as their desire to expand the frontiers of storytelling using new digital platforms, so we're very happy to have this partnership.
We'll be launching with five titles, described below, with more to follow, including two from Leanne Allison, one of the co-creators of the innovative transmedia project Bear 71.
Me and the Mosque
Director: Zarqa Nawaz
In many Canadian mosques, women are put behind barriers to pray and sometimes are not even expected to enter. This documentary covers the historical role and the current state of Canadian mosques regarding the presence of women, mainly focusing on how they are regarded by their parish
L’Affaire Coca-Cola
Directors: Carmen Garcia and German Gutierrez
The Coca-Cola Case presents a searing indictment of the Coca-Cola empire and its alleged kidnapping, torture and murder of union leaders trying to improve working conditions in Colombia, Guatemala and Turkey. The filmmakers follow labor rights lawyers Daniel Kovalik and Terry Collingsworth and anactivist for the Stop Killer-Coke! Campaign, Ray Rogers, as they attempt to hold the giant U.S. multinational beverage company accountable in this legal and human rights battle.
Has God Forsaken Africa?
Director: Musa Dieng Kala
Each year, thousands of young Africans like them risk their lives to flee a continent scourged by war and endemic poverty. Shocked by this growing phenomenon, the film's Senegal-born director returns to Dakar, where he grew up, and asks the painful question: Has God Forsaken Africa?
Hannah’s Story
Director: Juanita Peters
At the age of 5, Hannah Taylor spotted her first homeless person in the back alleys of Winnipeg. This experience not only troubled her, but it drove her to do nothing less than change the world. The Ladybug Foundation, the charity Hannah helped establish, has raised over a million dollars to date. With her huge heart and can-do attitude, she preaches a simple message of "Share a little of what you have and always care about others." As this short documentary proves, we all have a lot to learn from Hannah's story.
Finding Farley
Director: Leanne Allison
When Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison set out to retrace the literary footsteps of Farley Mowat they meant it literally. Their 5000KM trip –trekking, sailing, portaging and paddling from the Prairies to the Maritimes – is captured in the documentary Finding Farley.
